About Artist

I’m Hung and I love writing poetry. I like to use poetry to tell short stories about my generation from my perspective.

The poem is about the steps on a journey to pride through the lens of a growing boy: from ‘Studying’ – when pride was taught at school – to ‘Understanding’ - when that pride is what your heart feels – and finally, ‘Being a part of it’ – where the pride is anchored at the origin; the family, the community and the place we’re born.

"
I used to take pride in my hometown
Built on only great imagination!
Without knowing, every step on this ground
Could lead me to prouder realization.

Pride in cultural history, people, beautiful scenery, the place where we were born… is similar to a boy, will be raised, will grow up, will overflow, will penetrate more and more in every blood vessel of life.

When I was a child, when technology was not developed and information was not diverse, pride was just a concept that was heard from and taught by teachers. I wasn’t able to go to historical and cultural places, or meet and learn more about the people who make our country famous. I simply didn’t feel the national pride I should have. As technology developed, I grow older, got to travel more, connect more, listen more, experience more, then not only me, but also the pride inside me has matured, grown and becomes more complete.
